While the argument with ls is not wrong, in fact the behaviour of Thunar was changed. And in a way that is inconvenient if you use ~ for backup files in editors (as seems to be default in several of them). Previously invisible backup files pop up everywhere like weeds. - In this case I think, if Thunar's default behaviour is changed, it should be possible to reconfigure the old behaviour, even if only in some rc file.
