If I kill xfce4-power-manager, and optionally launch gnome-power-manager (set to Shutdown), the system shuts down; in the second or so beforehand, upower has not reported any events. Transcript (power button was pressed before interrupting upower): $ upower --monitor Monitoring activity from the power daemon.
