It seems, that a similar bug in GNOME gweather has been fixed: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=169699#31 And also gnome-shell-extension-weather allows "gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.weather wind-speed-unit m/s" while km/h is the default. Maybe some code from one or the other can be reused?
