Package: xfce4-volumed Version: 0.1.13-3 Severity: normal on some systems (eg a lenovo thinkpad edge), more than one alsa device with the same name show up. as devices are stored as names in /xfce4-mixer/active-card, xfce4-volumed can not be configured to use any of them but the third.
in this very setup, the sound devices and their controls look like this in xfce4-mixer: * HD-Audio Generic (Alsa mixer) * [] IEC958 [1] * HD-Audio Generic (Alsa mixer) * Master [2] * Headphone * Speaker * ... * ThinkPad Console Audio Control (Alsa mixer) * [] Console * ATI R6cc HDMI (OSS Mixer) * [] Digital-1 the main volume that's supposed to be regulated by the hardware buttons is the one marked with [2], but instead, the only thing that works with hardware buttons is toggling [1] with the mute button. /xfce4-mixer/active-card is configured to HDAudioGenericAlsamixer, which fits both devices. this, by the way, also affects /xfce4-mixer/sound-card and /xfce4-mixer/sound-cards. those only constitute minor annoyances, though. in this case, a workaround could be found by installing gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio, which names devices differently. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages xfce4-volumed depends on: ii gstreamer0.10-alsa [gstreamer0.10-audiosink] 0.10.36-1 ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad [gstreamer0.10-audiosink] 0.10.23-7 ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-good [gstreamer0.10-audiosink 0.10.31-3+nmu1 ii libc6 2.13-35 ii libglib2.0-0 2.33.12+really2.32.4-3 ii libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0 0.10.36-1 ii libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.36-1 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.10-2 ii libkeybinder0 0.2.2-4 ii libnotify4 0.7.5-1 ii libxfconf-0-2 4.10.0-1 xfce4-volumed recommends no packages. xfce4-volumed suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
