a recent update of Thunar, going to 1.6.3
* What was the outcome of this action?
thumbnails of JPG images do not created anymore while they
do appear on desktop.
resetting configuration by rm -rf .config/Thunar
does not solve the problem.

Ok, closing.

Not much we can do there, thumbnail generation is done by relevant
tools, some of which can take time (for example latex thumbnailer).
