As noted in #742460, I was able to compile lightdm-gtk-greeter 1.9.0 on Debian Jessie. My instructions in the upstream issue [1] note that only a single change was required to the package in order to get the new release to compile.
It would be a bummer not to have this change in Jessie -- on high DPI screens, a larger cursor is a necessity. Without this change, the cursor size cannot be reliably changed, and some applications resize the cursor at will.
