Package: lightdm
Version: 1.10.3-3
Severity: normal
Dear Maintainer,
I have had a problem with autologin on desktop computers.
* What led up to the situation?
I attempted to use autologin with lightdm (and kdm for that matter).
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
I uncommented the lines in lightdm.conf that enable autologin, as can
be seen in the attached lightdm.conf.
* What was the outcome of this action?
Nothing happened upon reboot, lightdm still showed a greeter asking for
username and password.
* What outcome did you expect instead?
I expected lightdm to log me in to my desktop as I had configured it to
do.
Lightdm has only been tested with XFCE, and on a laptop it automatically logs
me in. But on two different desktop computers, it has failed to autologin, and
has continued to ask for username and password. The reason I mention KDM is
because KDM also failed to autologin. All of these were installed on a nearly
clean installation of Debian 8.2 with XFCE, SSH server, and standard system
utilities tasks selected on install.
I can attach the KDM log if you like as well, although it is not very
descriptive.

Subject: Re: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#807616: lightdm: Lightdm (and KDM) does
not autologin on desktop computers
To: [email protected]
I believe this bug may have come about due to operator error. I may have
been uncommenting the lines
# autologin-user = User ......
# autologin-user-timeout = ......
Due to the fact that these lines are not after the [SeatDefaults] line,
they were not being accepted. I'll close this bug.
