--- Begin Message ---Package: xfce4 Version: 4.4.2.1 Severity: wishlist There is an ongoing discussion of this in bug #484656 and [email protected]. Not all package maintainers are willing to supply .desktop files and therefore create menu entries in the xdg menu, for packages with debian menu entries, because .desktop files are not in policy. This means the main menu is incomplete. While the debian menu is available as a submenu that is suboptimal because you either have to look in a second place if you don't find it in the main menu, or always look in the submenu, which begs the question of why the main menu is the main one. The debian menu is the system defined in policy and is canonical; every package that has menu entries has them in debian-menu. I am especially interested in this because I will, after lenny, be putting together a number of systems for new users of xfce, and I think the two places to look (or not finding the program at all because they don't know to look in the Debian submenu) situation should be remedied before then. I know that it is an easy fix, just a matter of swapping two lines in the menu definition file (/etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml ? ) Regards, Daniel -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages xfce4 depends on: ii gtk2-engines-xfce 2.4.2-2 A GTK+-2.0 theme engine for Xfce ii thunar 0.9.0-10 File Manager for Xfce ii xfce4-icon-theme 4.4.2-1 Xfce Standard icon theme ii xfce4-mcs-plugins 4.4.2-4 Special modules for the xfce4-mcs- ii xfce4-panel 4.4.2-6 The Xfce4 desktop environment pane ii xfce4-session 4.4.2-6 Xfce4 Session Manager ii xfce4-utils 4.4.2-8 Various tools for Xfce ii xfdesktop4 4.4.2-7 Provides desktop background and ro ii xfwm4 4.4.2-5 window manager of the Xfce project Versions of packages xfce4 recommends: ii desktop-base 4.0.7 common files for the Debian Deskto ii orage 4.5.12.2-6 Calendar for Xfce Desktop Environm ii xfce4-mixer 4.4.2-3 Xfce4 Mixer frontend ii xfce4-terminal 0.2.8-5 Xfce terminal emulator ii xfprint4 4.4.2-5 Printer GUI for Xfce4 ii xorg 1:7.3+12 X.Org X Window System -- no debconf information
