looking at a bug report this evening i glanced into the source code of the 
nowplaying dataengine[1], and was pretty shocked to see that all the dbus 
calls made in the mpris backend are synchronous.

which means that if the calls block (say .. because the media player freezes 
or stalls for some time) that anything using that dataengine will as well 
(e.g. plasma-desktop). ugh!

that would make a rather nice junior job, i think. would be a nice way to 
become familiar with QDBus as well, without having to start it from scratch, 
but rather just modify the existing code.

any takers? :)
