hi ... looking at a bug report this evening i glanced into the source code of the nowplaying dataengine[1], and was pretty shocked to see that all the dbus calls made in the mpris backend are synchronous.
which means that if the calls block (say .. because the media player freezes or stalls for some time) that anything using that dataengine will as well (e.g. plasma-desktop). ugh! that would make a rather nice junior job, i think. would be a nice way to become familiar with QDBus as well, without having to start it from scratch, but rather just modify the existing code. any takers? :) [1] kde-workspace/plasma/generic/dataengines/nowplaying/ -- Aaron J.
