The 3ds files are imported via lib3ds. I'm not exactly sure if there
is a version restriction via this library. There is a player.c file
(no relation to the Player server) posted on their site
(http://lib3ds.sourceforge.net/) which will load 3ds files and display
them. Maybe you can try that. Let me know if their player works.
