Hello Kendall,
I have recently become interested in the plex86 project ("an extensible
open source PC virtualization software program") and we have recently
had some discussions about providing guest os specific (video) drivers
for plex86. There is still much work to do in plex86 itself (it can only
boot msdos & freedos at the moment), but there's a lot of activity going
on.
Just recently, MandrakeSoft provided the project with an official
licensed Elpin VGA Bios (binary only) and I have been experimenting with
a plex86 guest os video extension (and am currently looking at howto
provide us with a VESA VBE 3 extension bios and (in the future) also
windows & linux display drivers). It's not exactly clear yet how we're
going to deal with host <-> guest communications in a general manner
(network, sound, etc support), but I hope this will be addressed in the
near future.
Since your company has developed UniVBE and The Scitech Display Doctor
(thus having a lot of experience in this kind of technology) and also
because of you're showed commitment to OpenSource software (I just read
the OpenWatcom announcement :)), I was wondering if you might be
interested in providing help with this when plex86 has some more
supported guest os'es.
I hope it's ok to bother you with this, if not then please disregard
this message.
