I'm not sure what you're calling bullshit, so I will ignore it.  The fact of
the matter is that trying to boot the CD under VMWare I *can* circumvent the
batch file, but the executable itself complains about not being able to
install.  Have you actually tried to run these CDs under a different BIOS?
I've had a similar experience with a Dell rescue disk for one model refusing
to install under another.

Pretty much all OEMs have started doing this with their windows versions.

So, to summarize, I'm not sure what it is that you find to be bullshit, but
if you have a way of getting around the BIOS check with a sony recovery CD,
I'd be most happy to hear about it (on or off list).
