I have been playing with another emulator, and happen to have RHL 7.0 and
Mandrake 7.2 installed on the same system, same drive.
RHL 7.0 is faster (as measured in the guest Linux's Bogomips).
The system is a Pentium II 233, and I compiled with the version of gcc that
shipped with the Linux.
As afar as it goes, it's a fair test.
