I've been on this list for a long time, and back in the day, I even
contributed a few small patches.

But this project has now gone nowhere for far too long, and I see no signs
that the current coordinator is interested in doing what needs to be done
for this to get anywhere.

A successful open source projects needs to be open to its developers.
This means public CVS. This means commitment to documenting the design,
and most importantly, this means being SUPER responsive to the developer
community's requests.

As soon as you break the momentum in an open source project, it's gone.
People aren't going to donate their free time to an effort where they
don't feel appreciated.

Proprietary, "my baby, and I will control it" attitutes to projects of
this sort are the kiss of death. I always figured it was a possiblity
that plex could end up going that route, considering how boch's license
originally was. But there were signs of light. Kevin was very
forthcoming about his goals and designs, reasonably receptive to patches,
and the LGPL license was fairly friendly for people.

But things have really stagnated. I'm tired of watching this list go
around in circles and get nothing done. Not even BASIC things, like a
working CVS repository, instead of a growing number of unapplied patches.

Like many hobbyists out there, I'm the type of person who chips in in
small ways. Patches to clean things up, documentation, that sort of
thing. I don't have the time to dedicate to getting deep into internals,
and I don't have the time to read squabbling. You're going to lose a lot
of people like me, and we do add up. We help to keep the momentum going
and draw in the big coders.

I'm out of here. Good luck everyone. Maybe you'll find the right leader
for this project and it'll take off again. I hope it does.
