Actually, the XFdrake doesn't work yet, due to a bug:
http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=29092

I have therefore set the requires of the nvidia packages so that they
can only be installed after the next drakx-kbd-mouse-x11 is released.

I also opened
http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=29094
related to the unobvious way to change drivers.

If you *must* install a nvidia driver, install them with --allow-nodeps
and follow these instructions to configure X.org manually:
1. update-alternatives --config gl_conf
2. select the wanted driver
3. open /etc/X11/xorg.conf
4. modify Driver to be "nvidia" in the "Device" section
5. in the Module section, make sure the only glx line present is:
Load "glx"
6. put these lines into the Files section:
   ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/PACKAGENAME"
   ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
Replace PACKAGENAME with nvidia97xx, nvidia96xx or nvidia71xx. x86_64
users replace /usr/lib with /usr/lib64
