It is apparently possible to watch HDDVD if you have the decrypted disc.
All this needs is a recent version of MPlayer.

I never heard of a way to play BluRay AVCHD M2TS files yet. The page
would imply that BluRay is supported, but I only think one can dump a
BluRay disc at this time, but not playback.

The software they mention to dump the disc DumpHD, is not even open
source. There are other programs that are open source, but I don't know
if they are as good as the page claims DumpHD is.

The disc dumper needs a list of keys that go with particular discs if
one plans to dump the DVD oneself.

Status:

1.) HDDVD playback: PLF is already shipping mplayer

2.) BlueRay playback: Not yet possible (?)

3.) HDDVD/BlueRay decryption: DumpHD can do it, but it is not open source

4.) Key db: For decryption, in various formats depending on the dumper,
latest format seems to be XML
