I consider this *very* bad practice.

You cannot know who is using this software.
You cannot know somebody might need to update/migrate an old Plone2.5-site
using this module in the future.
You cannot know know someone in the future might be interested to study 
and/or continue development.

It would be absolutely horrible if all packages/Products would disappear
like this just because the original developer lost interest in maintaining
it.

Just put in a notice that you as the original developer lost interest in
maintaining this package. Do not make it impossible for someone to take
over in the future.
