This is a bit off topic, but maybe interesting anyway:

• It is possible to use a "QR reader" program also for scanning isbn-numbers 
(isbn numers are unique)
• The isbn code can be used for looking up information about a book (in case 
you dont want to spend time registering them)
• I have looked how an  API could work, but maybe google books can be useful: 
https://developers.google.com/books/docs/v1/getting_started

a lot of books, so I could (try to ) help )
