I'm not sure. My impression from his responses is that he is package maintainer for one of the OS-X packaging systems. He alluded to the fact this release was worthless for him since his users could not be expected to work through the directory issues created by the symlink issue. I also don't think he is willing to work off of current svn. However (1) he hasn't pressed for another release and (2) he seems to happy enough with the development releases (and with 5.8.0-RC1) so I was leaning against a bug fix release.
