Hi Hazen:

I am in the middle of preparing an svg logo for PLplot for the new website
so I have started playing with -dev svgcairo again. I vaguely recall some
bad rendering issues (no text?) with this device with the old pango and
cairo libraries on Debian sarge, but with the Debian lenny libraries I have
now give results (including text) that look really good now. So that is
really a nice advance for the svgcairo device that required absolutely no
work on our part.

One issue I noticed from my svgcairo testing was that familying had not been
enabled for this device. Therefore I have committed a change to cairo.c to
enable that following what is done for the pngcairo case. This is just a
"cut-and-paste" change with only a superficial understanding of the cairo.c
code, but the change does seem to work well so that, for example, I can
obtain all pages of example 8 using the -fam option for -dev svgcairo now.
Even though everything appears to work, I would appreciate your review of
my changes just to make sure I introduced no bugs.

Alan
