It turned out to be easier than that: the cause was the same as
before but in a different part of the bindings. I changed the
format for returning the minimum and maximum in the matrix
extension to %.17g to guarantee a lossless conversion of the
floating point number to a string and that did the trick.

So, I reckon the Tcl examples now all give a perfect match
(at least with Tcl 8.5), only example 19 is still missing.
