Congratulations for getting so far with figuring out this mess.  In your
shoes I might be tempted to make the change.  However, from the outside it
sounds like you are not completely sure you have the full solution with all
potential side effects investigated so it is probably better to wait to make
the change until you are completely happy with your analysis, and we have a
full release cycle for testing.
