These will certainly move to either examples/ocaml/ or a subdirectory
of that once the code is properly integrated with the OCaml bindings.
I would like this code to eventually be fully integrated with the rest
of the OCaml bindings.

I knew I was opening myself up for this. :-)  I agree that this will
be a good opportunity to learn CMake.  Thank you for the offer of
assistance - when I get to that point, I will certainly take you up on
it.
