My (novice) understanding is that pybuffer is part of the standard
python/C api:
http://docs.python.org/release/2.6.5/c-api/buffer.html#bufferobjects

I did not install anything special on Windows Python 2.6, that said I
can't find an appropriate package for ubuntu.
