As discussed with Alan, I have implemented a string length calculation 
pathway for the cairo drivers. This improves the calculation of string 
lengths for the purposes of accurate text placement in legends, etc. 
With PLplot v11263+ you should see much better legend results in the 
second page of example 26 with the cairo drivers.

We would like to extend this to the Qt driver, as well as the other 
drivers. I've looked at what we might need to do for the Qt driver, but 
it does not look to be entirely straightforward due to it's internal 
buffering system. Perhaps one of our Qt experts has some thoughts on how 
to proceed?
