Hi Arjen:

I am taking this conversation back to the list because I think this
good news about a working modern installer for MinGW/MSYS is of
interest to quite a few here since otherwise installing modern
MinGW/MSYS is quite a nasty chore.

I tried the same installer (found at
"http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/mingw/Automated MinGW
Installer/mingw-get-inst/mingw-get-inst-20101030/mingw-get-inst-20101030.exe"
(all on one line with a blank between "Automated", "MinGW" and
"Installer...") here under wine-1.3.8. It appeared to work with no
issues at all.

Using that installer, I chose gcc, g++, gfortran, Ada, and the MinGW
developer toolkit (which includes MSYS BaseSystem). Despite the quite
large number of packages that were downloaded, the whole process was
still quick (5 minutes or so) so I think we can recommend this new
installer to everybody here that wants to get quickly started with the
latest MinGW/MSYS packages.

More later once I get PLplot's dependencies and PLplot itself built
and tested with the latest MinGW/MSYS under Wine.
