Hi Alan,

I am almost there:  small batch file to define a bunch of
environment variables.

There is one thing that I do not quite like:
The colour map files need to be installed in
"c:\program files (x86)\plplot\share\plplot5.9.9"

This is slightly annoying because this requires 
administrator
rights in some cases (Windows may be set to use a strict 
policy
and I encounter more and more restrictions). It would be 
nice
to be able to put the PLplot package anywhere. (By the 
looks
of it, it is not difficult to do.) More on this later.
