Hi Orion:

Thanks for mentioning xmlto which I was unaware of.  It appears to be
quite promising as a modern XML tool for converting our DocBook XML
source to a large number of documentation formats (it advertises
itself as XML to anything). Our build system (for -DBUILD_DOC=ON)
currently does that task using a variety of SGML DocBook backend tools
which are all extremely dated and therefore not maintained.  Since it
appears you are beginning to run into errors for those old SGML tools,
I have decided to try xmlto (starting later today) to see whether we can
use it instead of those SGML tools.
