I have heard from Arjen off-list that he plans to stick with small fixes for now for our Tcl-related bindings and examples in the next two weeks and put off the large overhaul we also need in that area until later. Our build system works well on my MinGW/MSYS/Wine platform for the limited tests I have done so far, but as soon as I attempted to expand that success using the test_comprehensive.sh script, it becomes obvious there are still some issues with the build system I need to fix for the MinGW/MSYS platform. I should be able to finish that work in the next two weeks as well. I am also well aware (see previous post today) of Phil's efforts to overhaul the wxwidgets devices, but my feeling is that work is not quite ready yet, and therefore we should delay committing it until just after the 5.10.0 release.
Therefore, I have tentatively decided on a 5.10.0 release date of Saturday, February 1st for our next "stable" release which should give all of us several days to do final pre-release testing of 5.10.0 after Arjen and I are finished two weeks from now. If anyone else here is planning some development work that would require delaying the 5.10.0 release after February 1st, please let me know now rather than later. :-) I have put "stable" in quotes because I think the distinction we have been making between development and stable releases is not useful. We have been making a lot of effort to insure each of our releases is as well-tested as possible on the platforms accessible to us so I think our releases deserve the "stable" label rather than the "development" label which some users misinterpret to mean "poorly tested". Thus, I plan to follow up 5.10.0 with many other "stable" releases in the 5.10.x series occurring roughly every three months or so and will so indicate in the release notes for 5.10.0.
