The octave issue I believe comes from running cmake in the source tree.
For some reason I have not got to the bottom of this does not work. You
must run cmake in a separate build tree for octave. It may be possible
to fix that, but for now a separate build tree would do. This is highly
recommended anyway - see for example the plplot wiki item on cmake.
