David, By default, PLplot's interactive devices wait after a call to plend or other functions which trigger the end of a plot page. If you would like to avoid this wait, you can use the plspause function to change that option. From C, calling plspause(0) will disable the end-of-page pause and plspause(1) will enable it again.
