Perhaps I should have added that you can either plot symbols using
plsym where you just add the symbol code, or embed a symobl in a
text string for plmtex or plptex using #(nnn) where nnn is a
decimal number (1-4 digits) which corresponds to the symbol code
displayed in example 7.
