Ok. I tried building PLplot once again, but failed in enabling PNG output. In the process, I updated fontconfig, libiconv, cairo, poppler, and pkg-config. Here is my long-ish account of what I did

As can be seen from the devices list, I just can't get png to be enabled. DEVICES_LIST: mem;null;ps;svg;xfig;xwin I also have agg installed, and that also doesn't get recognized (actually, I don't quite know how to turn on agg other than -DHAVE_AGG=ON, which is not really in the documentation).
