Almost, but I had in mind something slightly different; two calls to
plbox (one with "g" alone and one with "h" alone) to draw grids
corresponding to the major and minor tick marks with different
linestyles and linewidths for each call.  Note the major and minor
grid spacing would be the same for each call, but if only "g" were
specified you only get a grid corresponding to the major tickmarks and
if only "h" were specified you only get a grid corresponding to the
minor tick marks. Note, I have no practical experience with this idea
so you would have to try it and see, but I am virtually positive it
would work. For example, I have now spotted
