On behalf of all the PLplot developers I am happy to announce a new
release of PLplot is now available. We have put a substantial amount
of effort into this release (some 150 commits), and it is the only
version we support by answering questions here so downloading it and
building it is highly recommended.

For all the details concerning this release please follow the links
given in
<https://sourceforge.net/p/plplot/news/2018/12/plplot-5140-has-been-released/>.
Note that the release notes linked there are especially important
because they give details concerning backwards incompatibilities
(an unfortunate necessity to support our on-going but slow battle
against cruft). Those release notes contain official notices for
users of this release that have the following headings:

* CMake version compatibility
* Remove Fortran cruft
* Remove Tcl/Tk cruft
* Remove plmap cruft
* Remove Perl/PDL examples
* Remove all previously deprecated functions
* Official deprecation of plshade1
* Official deprecation of C++ cruft
* plplot.org and www.plplot.org are now our official domains
* We have removed the "sys" subdirectory from our source tree
* Imported PLplot targets now must use the "PLPLOT::" prefix for the target name
* Drop -single_module linking option that was previously forced for Mac OS X
* Changed color interpolation for plscmap1l and plscmap1la

Those release notes also contain details of improvements for this release that
have the following headings:

* Bug fixes
* Update control of Python version
* Rewrite the build-system logic for determining PYQT_SIP_DIR and PYQT_SIP_FLAGS
* Implement plStatic2dGrid
* Replace use of the deprecated WIN32 and __WIN32__ macros by the _WIN32 macro
* Difference report default device changed from psc to svg
* Resolve the remaining difference report issues
* Improve command-line parsing
* Cleanup of plmap
* wxwidgets development status
* First step toward using best CMake-3 practices for our build system
* Update PLplot to be consistent with modern free software
* Rewrite documentation of PLplot testing
* Configure the ps and psttf device drivers just like all other device drivers

Enjoy this new version of PLplot!
