Sure, but that is because the only thing that separates the different
Plucker documents today is the compression format.

I disagree. There is a reason to why the version is included in a
record, e.g. if you use the -c option when downloading the data and
then some other tool to build the Plucker document you will not know
what version to use.

You can still do that with the version in the index record. It is a
2 byte variable, so I doubt we will run out of versions.
