Thanks Mike Explode was all I needed - I now have support for images in QTReader - plus some huge memory leaks 8^) so its not ready for release yet but watch this space.
If anybody wants a copy, and is willing to put up with the memory leaks, just let me know - I'll announce on Plucker-Announce when it is ready for prime time.
