I think he was really asking questions, not trying to disparage it.
In fact, he prefaced his message with

  I looked into Plucker.  Pretty cool.  It is a small specification that
  has all the standard things you want: multiple fonts, font styles,
  images, hyperlinks, and so on.  Because of these two properties --
  minimal yet sufficient -- I decided to [do something with it].

Sorry, I should have forwarded that first -- we all need a little
ego-stroking.  I presume he'll announce what he's doing with it when
he's finished it.
