I would have to say it's because I can't draw. And I was thinking about
things related to downloading ie. plucker, sucker, etc... so I think
that the pacifier came about primarily because i needed something that
was very simple to draw, looked OK in b&w, and related to the
application, i.e. sucking - but not necessarily the final name, because
I dont think I'd come up with 'plucker' at the time!... It's also
possible that I was just doodling and it appeared in the icon editor and
then I made the rest of it up. Circles and lines are about the extent of
my graphical abilities... so I can't remember exactly how it came about,
though I do remember I was sitting in the living room of my apartment in
Maitland St, Toronto M4Y1C4 and it was late evening when I did it...
weird what you remember..!

fwiw I think that the action of taking a pacifier from a baby could be
called "plucking" it from the baby's mouth, though my experience with
babies is somewhat limited! :)

Also fwiw, the original name of the "plucker" software was "flight
attendant". The reasoning was that you had an explorer and a navigator,
and a palm pilot, so the only thing missing was ... :) But it was too
hard to type (though I used the abbreviation FA a lot, which also has
connotations) and a bit obscure, so plucker (while still obscure) at
least relates to the function as well as being a joke, so i went with
that.

Cheers
Mark
