Parsing MS Word documents

The internal information that our company plucks contains many ms word documents which are very valuable to have on the Palm.  However the current Python parser doesn't handle them.  I saw David's message back in October that involved wv and Perl to do the conversion.  I'm wondering if it will be worth my time to try to incorporate the msword conversion into the Python parser without Perl but using wv.  I'm thinking I can just add a section in the handler for application/ms-word types (with .doc extensions I think) and call out to the converter.

If I'm successful, would this be a valuable addition to the core or should I maintain it just as a patch.  I guess the same could go for other document types like pdfs.

Any ideas?
