Just a quick question for you Matto: is Shift-JIS the character encoding
used by the Japanese Palm OS? Or are there more encodings possible? I've had
several requests from Japanese users to support Japanese character sets in
JPluck.
Yes. Officially supported is Shift-JIS only.
There are three ways to use Japanese on Palm devices.
1. Buy Japanese palm devices (sold in Japan) 2. Use J-OS w/ non-Japanese device. 3. Use CJKOS w/ non-Japanese device.
3rd choice allows to use Shift-JIS/EUC-JP/Unicode, but 1 and 2 only allow Shift JIS.
As PalmDesktop application (and almost all Windows/Macintosh applications) are
designed to use ShiftJIS, using other encodings than Shift-JIS will cause various
troubles.
