Well, a new problem has kind of come up. When I went to the PalmSource Dev Seminar early last May, AlphaSmart was there. I tried their device, and even tested plucker out on it. While still at 160x160 it ran as expected. However, I was less than impressed by AlphaSmart's take on open-sourced software and on prc-tools. For one thing they were less than cooperative with their attitudes toward me, as well as to the tools that we use. Secondly, their SDK/Emulator only works under windows/codewarrior. This in itself isn't exactly impossible to work around, I mean, I did write a script to get the Sony SDK to work under prc-tools, and their pose emulator to run under linux (via wine) but the same technique wouldn't apply to their developer tools. I asked them if I could get any help towards getting the SDK to work, and they promptly replied "No, use codewarrior/windows". While I am paraphrasing a bit, in essesce they were pretentious, rightous and frankly wouldn't care. Granted, it may have just been the views of the people manning their booth, but the whole experience with them certainly has left a nasty taste in my mouth. FWIW, I believe that it may be possible to port their SDK into prc-tools and to get everything to work properly on their device, but I have no ambition of doing it.
