If you page down with scroll-to-bottom disabled, you will eventually reach
the last page, and it will typically have a bunch of blank lines at the
end.  Enabling scroll-to-bottom will adjust the last page so you don't see
the blank lines--the last line of the file is the last line of the
screen.  The dot then marks where you left off reading on the previous
page.
