It seems that there are some users
(http://bugs.plkr.org/bug_view_advanced_page.php?bug_id=854) who would like
to be able to map all fonts to a single font. I am opposed to adding
another option to the viewer.
Here's what I am planning to do. grayfont.c already includes support for
font remapping. I will extend the Plucker font package format to allow one
to include as one of the font resources a fontID, in which case that font
gets remapped to the specified fontID. This will allow system fonts to be a
part of a custom font package.
This will have a couple of advantages.
1. We will be able to roll a package that contains no glyphs but maps all
fonts to one system font.
2. We will be able to create custom aa font packages where more than one
font size/weight uses the same glyphs, thereby saving space--aa fonts are
very large. The current solution to this is that missing aa fonts fall
through to the default system fonts, but because of encoding issues this is
non-ideal.
3. We will be able to restore the extra Sony fonts that Mike would like to
release just by releasing font packages without actually adding any code,
and these font packages won't need to include any bitmaps, but just IDs.
If I do this, then anti-aliased font option in the configuration should be
renamed "advanced custom fonts" (remapped fonts OR grayscale fonts).
