I suspect the problem is that these fonts are not FontTypeV2 fonts. Note, too, that using this forces you to load the Sony HR library. I rather liked the idea that on OS5 this didn't need to be loaded... You also need to carefully handle the case where the font setting happens through the routines in grayfont.c.
