It currently can handle a colored foreground, after all, so it's just a matter of modifying the interpolation formula. I will be happy to incorporate this into the codebase if nobody objects. Of course it should only do this when needed. Currently the fonts have a "transparent" background when displayed, at least the kerned ones. That won't help you because, say, a 5% gray will look white but will not be transparent.
