Has anybody on this list bought any ebooks from them?  If so, do you know
what the license said?

I think it MIGHT count as circumvention as long as we did not have implicit
permission from the copyright owner.  And since the copyright owner probably
doesn't want the data to be converted into an open format, we probably can't
presume such permission.  I wonder if it would be legally any better if we
converted it into an ENCRYPTED Plucker doc, with the encryption key being
not just the Hotsync name, but the Hotsync name plus credit card number?
