Guilty as charged! I stupidly assumed that no headers were going out other than the ones I could SEE. I am chastened. (This message, which should properly be a reply, isn't. Just showing that I can do it.) Compiling python 2.1.1 from source was not trouble-free, but the python executable did compile on my RedHat box. I installed to /usr/local/python2 and then added /usr/local/python2/bin to my PATH. Now the Plucker python scripts run without modification.
