I've run into an annoying problem with Plucker, and I'm not sure whether this is a Plucker bug, or a problem on my device.
I have Plucker 1.2 installed on a Handspring Visor Pro, using OS 3.5.2H. The Visor has a PiTech MemPlug CF adapter with a 128MB CF card, using the current (2.14) MemPlug firmware. Plucker documents are installed in /Palm/Programs/Plucker on the card. (No Plucker docs are kept in RAM.) There are 299 Plucker documents in 14 categories, occupying 48MB of space. I have Plucker set to manually update documents to avoid the _long_ startup times that many documents on a card would cause if I had it refresh each time. I have a USB card reader, and I normally install Plucker docs by dropping them directly into the Plucker directory on the card rather than hotsyncing and moving them to the card in the device. Problem 1: If I delete the underlying document file using a card reader or a file manager like Filez, the entry for the document is still in the library form. Okay, that's understandable: I didn't delete it through Plucker, so Plucker doesn't know it's gone. If I select the doc in the library form and choose Delete, Plucker says it can't delete the document. Again, understandable -- the document doesn't exist. If I do an Update Documents operation, Plucker works for a while, then crashes with a fatal exception. When the device resets, I go back into Plucker, and discover that I now have _two_ entries for every document: one in the original category, and one in Unfiled! If I move the Unfiled entry to the appropriate category, I now have two entries for the same document in that category. If I remove the document, it removes the underlying document and clears the entry from the category where I removed it, but the duplicate entry still exists in the other category, pointing to a non-existant document. Problem 2: If I drop new Plucker documents in the Plucker directory, and do an Update operation, Plucker works a while, then suffers a fatal exception. When I reset and look again, I have the same problem I mentioned above: copies of all document listings are in both the original category _and_ Unfiled. The only way to cure this is to remove plkrdoclist, Update Documents, recreate all categories, and re-categorize all documents. This is annoying, to put it mildly. As a suggestion for a future release, it would be nice if a Delete operation would simply remove the document entry if the underlying document didn't exist, rhather than leaving a stray pointer to nothing lying around. Meanwhile, does anyone have an idea of what might be going on here? I'm about at the point of doing a hard reset on the Visor, and redoing everything from scratch to try to clear up the problem.
