My 1.4.1 JRE subdirectory is 40.3MB, with rt.jar being 22.4 MB. The readme I saw indicates which jar files are optional, but does give any directions on removing classes from rt.jar. I assume you would have to do this since this one file puts you 10MB over the limit you indicate. Or are you talking about the ZIPed size? Even that is tough to get this small.
You redistribute the JRE subdirectory from the JDK with your application. The 8Mb number was incorrect. The international JRE is about 12Mb.
